This is another wonderful book of stories that we read on a regular basis during our homeschool hours. The introduction says:
"Like the Book of Virtues, this book aims to aid in the task of the moral education of the young. The Book of Virtues identified and examined ten traits of character...In this volume we find those same virtues but this time we meet them in a different place: the stages of life's journey."
The chapters cover stages of life:
1. Home and Hearth
2. Into the World
3. Standing Fast
4. Easing the Path
5. Mothers and Fathers, Husbands and Wives
6. Citizenship and Leadership
7. What We Live By
This book has stories from the Bible, stories from Hans Christian Andersen, Mother Teresa, Longfellow, and Tennyson. It has African folk tales, songs, poems and Aesop fables. It includes such stories as "Beethoven's Triumph", "What Bradley Owed", "The Grumble Family", "Grumble Town" and "The Spider and the Fly." There is something here for everyone, from the little child to the adult. I love reading this book to my children.
Most stories you can read in one or two settings during your story time with your children. I have read this over and over during my twenty years of homeschooling, and when my children get old enough to read large volumes, I often find them reading it themselves. They like to take it on trips to keep them busy. It is 824 pages in all, with wonderful character building stories on each page.
This is a book I highly recommend, whether you homeschool your children or not. All children need to be trained in character building, and this book is a good help.
